Ribbon Baby Hat

I have a friend having a baby next month and I wanted to find a cute little outfit for her. I could not find a pattern I liked anywhere:) So, I made my own! The first installment is Ribbon Baby Hat. Coming soon will be a dress and maybe some little booties to match!

Ribbon Baby Hat

Needed: 1 skein of Hope Cotton in Purple, 170 yds, DK weight you will use about 1/2 the skein. About 20 inches of organdy ribbon, I used a plum purple. Size 6 needles, 40" for Magic Loop. You can also use DPN's
Gauge: 4.5 sts to 1"
Sizes: Baby

Cast on 72 stitches onto the needle. Divide for Magic loop. Join in the round
Row 1: *K1, P1* Repeat till end of round
Row 2: *P1, K1* Repeat till end of round
Row 3: *K2tog, YO* Repeat till end of round

After those 3 rows are completed, work in stockinette stitch until the piece measures 3 1/4 inches from the cast on edge.
Then, begin decreases.

Row 1: *K7, K2tog* Repeat till end of round
All Even rows: Knit
Row 3: *k6, K2tog* Repeat till end of round
Row 5: *K5, K2tog* Repeat till end of round
Row 7: *K4, K2tog* Repeat till end of round
Row 9:* K4, K2tog* Repeat till end of round
Row 11: *K3, K2tog* Repeat till end of round
Row 13: *K3, K2tog* Repeat till end of round
Row 15: *K2, K2tog* Repeat till end of round
Row 17: *K1, K2tog* Repeat till end of round; 16 stitches left
Row 18: K2tog around; 8 stitches left

Break yarn, leaving a 6 inch tail. Thread yarn into tapestry needle and weave through stitches on needles, close hole in top of head and weave in all ends on the wrong side of the hat. Using the ribbon, weave it through the eyelet row and tie a bow off the center of the front.

New Yarns:)

I took a little trip to Fuzz yesterday! I love all the yarns they have added. I planned to go in a just grab a couple of DK weight yarns that would be good for babies -- I got a cotton and a linen. But, they were having a Super Secret Sock Yarn Sale, and yesterday was the last day! Talk about destiny, I was meant to be there yesterday! I picked up some yummy Tofutsies and Life Style by Zitron!

I really knit a sock yesterday

I wasn't kidding in my post yesterday! I really went and knit a sock, it was super relaxing! I used the Bob's Party Sock Pattern from Ravelry. Very cute. And, yes, I modified it:) I only used 3 repeats in the foot part instead of the suggested 4. Then after I turned the heel, I began a ribbing and made a short sock. After I did that I tried to decide if I have been making short socks because I don't like to knit the leg part or I don't like to have sock above my ankles! After much soul searching, I don't like sock above my ankles! So, all my socks will be shorties and I will not feel any guilt for not following a pattern exactly! Does anyone else feel guilt when they change a designers pattern?

as a side note, Hannah was home when I was taking pictures and she is a total picture hog! So, her foot is in the picture with mine! I could not get a picture without it:) She kept sneaking in her foot at the last moment!

yikes!

Things are getting so busy around here! I have not even had time to knit:( The PTO stuff is coming to a head with the biggest fundraiser of the year going on and pressure coming from all directions! I will be so glad when I am done with the PTO! I just keep telling myself that June 6th is the last day for me to be President! All I am hoping for is a person who wants to be president to step up and volunteer! I would love to have 2 or 3 people and actually have to have an election!

Now that is off my chest, I am trying to find something to knit, nothing is really speaking to me, maybe some socks, I think I will start some socks right now! I need some stress relief!

Yarn Meme

Casey, Ravelry's code monkey, recently posted a Current Top 100 Yarns, by both projects and stash. The meme goes like this:

Cross out the ones you’ve used and would not use again,
and italicize the ones you’ve never tried, but would like to.
Add comments as desired, and then pass the meme along to 5 knitters/crocheters.

Also a note about my choices -- I am a total yarn snob, I hate to knit with anything that contains acrylic, any amount of acrylic, I also am not a fan of Lion Brand yarns. That does not mean I don't knit with them, in fact I have some in my stash, but, I would choose almost any other yarn before I chose those yarns.

Some FO's!

I have been in a dishcloth mood lately, so I knit up the Monthly Dishcloth KAL for April and a Squidge Cloth! They both turned out great:)

I also started the Brighton Bag. This is for the Silent Auction at the Kids school in May! I am super excited, it is turning out so pretty. I am knitting it in Berroco Naturlin. Such a beautiful yarn!

Happy Blogiversary

Yes, it is my Blogiversary today! I am a whole year old! We have had a lot of 1 year old birthdays lately and as my kids would say, I am no longer a zero!

So I thinks I would love to have a contest. In honor of it being my 1st birthday, and all of the babies around me turning 1, I will have a Baby contest:) All you need to do is, leave a comment, in the comment tell me what your favorite baby item to knit is, a link showing the item would be great, or where you could find the pattern for it! And, tell me how you got here, it could earn the person who sent you an extra entry. The contest will end at midnight on April 13th -- my moms birthday:) It's all about birthdays here!

The Prize?? In your comment, ask for a type of yarn. i.e. sock, wool, silk, novelty. As well as a favorite color. I will make the prize from your comment, so a tailored to you prize! There will be one winner picked by the random number generator! Good luck and Happy blogiversary to me:)
